ParticipantHi, new to trading and currently back testing Dark Venus on Gold for a 15min Chart.
I have managed to optimise the settings a bit and can sit with either 10.93 or 15.03 Profit Factor, depending which settings I am using. This is based on a $1000 account, back tested over a 6 month period, at 0.5% risk and lot size of 0.01. It works out at a 75-78% win rate on both short and long trades.
I cannot get the drawdown to reduce from the current 8.8% without halving the profit. But I think the DD rate is ok?
Also, any suggestions how to amend this to make it work on a 5min Chart for Gold to scalp?
The current settings on the 15min Chart are only executing approximately 1.5 trades per week.
Thanks

ParticipantHi Matt,
Where are your set files please? Interested to back test some as am trying to work out sets for 1, 5, 15 minute charts, as well as 1 & 4 hour. Learning as I go so haven’t linked anything to live yet. But so far the 15 min set I have looks good. Though keen to get DD lower than 8.8% but when I try, it almost halves the profit…

ParticipantHi Tijl,
What settings have you got for XAU/USD?

MemberHi!
I am using the settings Matt made with the set file they showed in the YT video.
I did not change a thing except not using a couple pairs (GER30/40 and ETH)June 17, 2024 at 1:12 am #261560Forex McLaugh
ParticipantI have been running back testing on the settings provided with Gold and keep coming up with HUGE losses on this and each other pair I have tried it on? I have saved the set file and am loading it to Dark Venus as is. I have been playing about with settings all weekend and at one point managed to get the profit really high (over 700 on a 1k account with 0.5% risk) and the drawdown really quite low (between 8-8.8%), saved the set file and ran it again and it is completely different now… I’m new to trading and this is really confusing and frustrating me that the tests are so inconsistent. Any ideas if or where I am going wrong here? Thanks

ParticipantHi Matt
Newby here been trading for a month now small account started out with $50 and build it up to $800 not doing to bad but i am the working class and loose out on a lot of trades, so i started experimenting with Dark Venus not bad but ive noticed a huge disatvantage when it trades and i cant seem to find the solution.
Dark Venus put in a trade it grows up to $10-15 but then lets it go back down to between $0.06 and 1.26 then takes that as a profit please advise is their any way i can set it to take profit at the closest to turning point?

KeymasterI think that picking set files is like an evolution. So far I have a copy with no changes and a copy with 5 set as the maximum entries just to get an idea as to which 4 or 5 pairs have the best behaviour. I intend to add copies as I dream up criteria,

KeymasterHello All, I read the post from Tijl above and clicked the link. Then I see the equity as of today. I have had the same problem. Ran the set files with great success to over 120% per month for 3 months but then recently crashed the account because of open positions which triggered high DD and dropped leverage to under 100% forcing the close of positions and the loss. No settings in the EA seems to stop this from happening. Even the monetary and percent stop loss set at 1% didn’t close the EA. Lastly, I am wondering if we all have had the same experience. Can this be that July was an anomaly or that the EA only runs for max of 3 months before you should expect a crash?

Participanthi, someone of you, know how to set messages limit in darkvenus to broker’s server? because my broker has 50000 messages limit /day, and dark venus runs over this limit. broker is ready to freeze my EA… holy cow…

ParticipantI don’t know if this group is still active?! I just started testing with this DV ea and I can only say that it is super.
However, I want to start with a very small amount $200 and even with the lowest lot size of 0.01 this amounts to a risk of 1.7% for gbpusd and 1.45% for eurusd. Since I’m more comfortable with a lower risk level (in the range 0.4-0.5%) because of margin call, I have set coefficient grid management to 0.5 and min distance to 100.
I am most concerned about the possibility of getting wiped out in trendy markets as mentioned by @Marin and I’ll like to get settings that will enforce a max DD of -25% and if possible shut off the trades for the remainder of the day as proposed by @Matt (although I can’t see the set file. Or is it the image file? I’ve gone through it but can’t see the elements that limit the DD)
thanks

MemberI would suggest that this inconistency is most likely user error to be honest. I would recommend that every time you get backtests that look good that you save both the backtest and the set file so that can revert back to see exactly what you did. One settings wrond could make a big difference. Failing that if you have saved just the backtest file then at the top of the file the parameters of the EA are provided, Dates, Bakctesting model etc so should be able to recreate. Backtesting results can change a very small amount due to live changes in swaps but should be very similar
